Mujong’s First Institutional Customer: Delivered to Yuhua Secondary School

Kiki with the aesthetics teaching team at Yuhua Secondary School.

A milestone we’ve been building toward since our Educator’s Pilot Programme launched: today marks Mujong’s first institutional sale! Kiki delivered a hands-on demo workshop to the music educators of Yuhua Secondary School, walking their aesthetics teaching team through how Mujong plays and how it maps onto real classroom teaching — and Yuhua has now come on board as our very first institutional customer.

Thank you so much to Yuhua Secondary’s aesthetics teaching team for their support, enthusiasm, and belief in this little game that started as a crazy idea at bedtime! The partnership is tied specifically to the school’s Music Elective Programme (MEP) — for anyone unfamiliar with Singapore’s school system, MEP is a Ministry of Education initiative offered at a select number of secondary schools for students with a strong aptitude and interest in music, going well beyond the compulsory general music lessons every student takes. MEP students follow a deeper, examinable syllabus covering music theory, composition, and ensemble performance, typically leading to an O-Level or equivalent qualification in music. Having Mujong evaluated and brought into a programme like that means the world to us.

Our hope is to make music theory less intimidating, more intuitive… and maybe just a little bit addictive. Here’s to many more classrooms ahead!

“Tiny Hands, Big Dreams”: Mujong in Lianhe Zaobao

The Lianhe Zaobao feature on Kiki Boo, as shared by Mujong.

We’re honoured to share that Lianhe Zaobao — Singapore’s leading Chinese-language newspaper — has published a feature on Kiki, under the headline “Tiny hands, big dreams: 8-year-old girl hopes to build a longevity village” (小女孩大志向打造长寿村).

The article uses Mujong as its starting point but reaches for something bigger. Zaobao’s reporter learned that Kiki’s ambitions don’t stop at music-theory games: she carries a dream of one day building a “Longevity Village” on her grandfather’s land in Johor, a place where the elderly could live, travel, and spend their later years together, surrounded by family across generations. The idea traces back to weekends spent at her grandparents’ home.

The feature also credits two institutions by name for shaping Kiki’s path so far: Woodlands Primary School, where she is a student, for nurturing her creativity, and the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors’ Award (TKKYIA) for recognising Mujong’s underlying innovation.

Thank you to Lianhe Zaobao for taking the time to see Kiki’s story as more than just a product — and for capturing an ambition that reaches well beyond a tile game.

The Mujong Launch Showcase — and a First Retail Shelf

Kiki delivering the opening speech at the Mujong Launch Showcase, Musart Co-Create.

What a fortnight it’s been! On 20 October, Mujong officially launched at our showcase event, held at the MusArt Co-Create Concert Hall in Geylang. The morning included an opening speech from our founder-CEO Kiki Boo, a performance by the Alouette Ensemble, guest appearances from music-education leaders, and a lovely congratulatory video message from Singapore’s Minister of State Jasmin Lau. The showcase did double duty as collection day for our Educator’s Pilot Programme, with participating educators picking up their complimentary Mujong sets in person. Thank you again to MusArt Co-Create for generously hosting us, and to everyone who came down to celebrate with us that morning!

And today, we get to share another first: Mujong is now available at Music Delight School, at Whitesands in Pasir Ris — our first retail partner! A huge thank you to Ed Chua for his confidence in bringing the product on board. We’re expanding, and we’d love to collaborate with more music schools, retailers, and educators who share our passion for music and learning — reach out if that’s you.

Two milestones, eleven days apart: a launch party, and a shop shelf. Both feel very real.

Sets in Hand: The Educator’s Pilot Programme Reaches Its Classrooms

A Mujong tile set.

The wait is over! Sets for our Educator’s Pilot Programme have arrived, and this month educators have been collecting their complimentary Mujong sets — in person at our launch showcase on 20 October, by self-collection at our Woodlands headquarters, or by delivery to their doorstep.

It’s been months since the pilot programme first opened for sign-ups, inviting educators to trial the game in their own classrooms and studios ahead of any commercial launch. Seeing those sets finally land in real hands, ready for real classrooms, is exactly the moment we’ve been working toward.

A huge thank-you to every educator who signed up, and who’ll now be putting Mujong through its paces with their own students. We can’t wait to hear how it goes — and this is very much just the beginning of a relationship we hope to keep growing.

Tiny Tiles on the Big Stage: Mujong at Tech in Asia Conference 2025

The Mujong Startup Factory booth on Day 1 of Tech in Asia Conference 2025, Jakarta.

Day 1 setup complete! We’ve packed our tiles for our biggest stage yet: the Tech in Asia Conference 2025, running 22–23 October at the Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place in Jakarta, as part of the event’s Startup Factory exhibitor track.

From a classroom in Singapore to a startup stage sharing floor space with venture-backed technology companies from across the region — it’s a genuinely surreal feeling to see Mujong featured among so many innovative brands and creators.

Tech in Asia’s own promotional material leaned into the novelty directly, describing Kiki as the conference’s youngest exhibitor and inviting attendees to “meet the 8-year-old inventor and founder of Kiki’s Music.” It’s the first time we’ve been positioned not just as a children’s product at a family event, but as a startup among startups — evaluated on the same terms as everyone else on the exhibition floor.

Kiki is treating these two days as a chance to explain Mujong’s mechanics to an audience of investors, founders, and journalists who have likely never encountered a mahjong-inspired music theory game before — in the compressed, confident pitches that startup conferences demand. It has to work on two levels at once: to a parent or educator walking the floor, Mujong needs to read as a genuinely useful teaching tool; to an investor or fellow founder, it needs to read as a real business with a real product and a founder — however young — who understands both.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth today. More from Jakarta soon!

Please Switch Your Phone to Silent Mode: Mujong Meets the Young Musicians Orchestra

A frame from the Please Switch Your Phone to Silent Mode pre-concert animation.

This afternoon, Mujong proudly supported “Music In the Theatre,” a concert presented by the Young Musicians Orchestra (YMO) at Play Den, The Arts House — an afternoon of beloved movie themes performed under the baton of Maestro Lim Ni Ta.

Rather than simply sponsor the event, we wanted to contribute something the young audience would actually remember: two short pre-concert animations. The first, a playful “Please switch your phone to Silent Mode” reminder starring Mujong’s own tile-shaped mascot, did the unglamorous job every concert needs done — with a wink. The second was more personal: an enchanting sequence in which Kiki’s own “Mujong Castle” transforms into a magical fairytale castle, drawn straight from the game’s own visual language.

The turnout was tremendous, and the Young Musicians Orchestra — a youth ensemble in every sense — played with the kind of poise and sparkle that made the pairing feel completely natural. Mujong exists to make music theory playful for children, so sharing a stage, even briefly, with a full youth orchestra doing exactly that with instruments in hand felt like a quiet vindication of everything we’re building.

Both animations were built in-house by our small team. The “Silent Mode” clip in particular had to do something genuinely useful — get an auditorium full of families to put their phones away — without feeling like a scolding, which is a harder brief than it sounds for an audience that includes plenty of restless younger siblings!

Thank you to YMO and everyone at The Arts House for having us. There was no hard sell today, no product placement — just two animations built specifically for this audience, in this room, for this concert. That’s exactly how we like to show up.

Mujong Receives Judges’ Special Mention Award at TKK Young Inventor Award 2025

Mujong was honoured with the Judges’ Special Mention Award at the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventor Award 2025. The judging panel described Mujong as “a highly developed product that is ready for the market,” affirming its evolution from concept to structured educational tool within months.

The Moment

Our founder, Kiki, was humbled to receive the Judges’ Special Mention Award at the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventor Award 2025.

The panel’s remarks were especially meaningful. Mujong was described as:

“A highly developed product that is ready for the market.”

For a product that began as an experimental idea at the piano, this recognition marked a turning point.

What started as curiosity has matured into a structured, playable, modular music-learning system.

From Idea to Educational Tool

Mujong began as a simple question:

How can children learn to recognise notes with speed and confidence — without relying on written note names as crutches?

Through iterative prototyping, gameplay testing with music teachers, and countless refinements, Mujong evolved into:

  • A modular tile-based music system
  • A calibrated framework adaptable from beginner to advanced levels
  • A tool that transforms music theory into interactive play

Within months, it moved from concept to fully developed educational product.

This award affirms that the development was not accidental — it was intentional.

Why This Recognition Matters

Validation from educators and innovation judges signals three things:

  1. Mujong is pedagogically sound
  2. Mujong is structurally developed
  3. Mujong is commercially viable

The recognition reinforces Mujong’s transition from edutainment prototype to serious edutech platform.

It also signals readiness — not just as a classroom activity, but as a scalable educational product.

Community & Support

We extend our gratitude to the organisers for providing a platform that supports youth innovation.

We are also grateful for the presence and support of Minister Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, whose encouragement of young innovators continues to inspire the next generation of creators.

Innovation does not grow in isolation. It grows in ecosystems.

The Adventure Is Just Beginning

Awards mark milestones. They are not destinations.

Mujong continues to evolve:

  • Expanding into digital formats
  • Refining modular expansions
  • Developing beginner-friendly pathways
  • Strengthening its pedagogical framework

This recognition is not the end of a journey. It is the confirmation that the journey is worth pursuing.

Mujong Partners with Perspectives Film Festival at Oldham Theatre

Mujong was invited to collaborate with the upcoming Perspectives Film Festival at the iconic Oldham Theatre. This partnership marks an important step in extending Mujong’s presence beyond traditional music classrooms into the wider creative and cultural landscape.

A Meaningful Collaboration

We are grateful to the organisers of the Perspectives Film Festival for the opportunity to partner in this inspiring event held at the historic Oldham Theatre.

This collaboration represents a natural convergence of artistic disciplines.

Why This Matters

Mujong was designed as more than a teaching aid. It is a system that transforms music theory into an interactive experience — one that builds fluency, confidence, and creative thinking.

It signals a shift from being solely an educational product to becoming part of a larger artistic ecosystem.

From Classroom to Cultural Platform

As Mujong continues to evolve, it is increasingly positioned at the intersection of education, creativity, and community engagement.

This collaboration highlights:

  • Mujong’s adaptability across different creative contexts
  • Its relevance beyond structured learning environments
  • Its potential as a bridge between music education and the wider arts community

Innovation flourishes through dialogue. Growth happens when ideas move beyond their original boundaries.

Looking Ahead

We look forward to sharing the joy of music, learning, and creative exploration with audiences at the festival.

As Mujong continues its journey, collaborations with cultural institutions will play a meaningful role in shaping its development and expanding its impact.

The journey continues — one perspective at a time.

🥁 Rhythm Meets Strategy: Kiki Plays MuJong with SSO Percussionist Mario Choo!

What happens when a world-class percussionist meets an 8-year-old music game inventor — and brings along his own 5-year-old secret weapon?

You get a MuJong showdown that’s equal parts brilliance, bonding, and bonus tiles.

Today, we were honoured to host Mario Choo, celebrated Percussionist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), at our studio — and it wasn’t just a musical visit. Mario brought his whole family, turning what was meant to be a friendly MuJong session into a masterclass in rhythm, musicianship, and musical parenting.

🎶 About Mario Choo

A familiar face on Singapore’s concert stages, Mario Choo has been with the SSO since 2015, after graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Music with a Master of Music in Percussion under the legendary Prof. Gert Mortensen.

He has performed under the batons of world-renowned conductors such as:

  • Sir Simon Rattle (Berlin Philharmonic Karajan Academy)
  • James Levine
  • Leonard Slatkin
  • David Zinman

His extensive international experience includes guest appearances with orchestras across Asia, festivals like the Aspen Summer Music Festival, and collaborations with percussion ensembles like Percurama. His arrangements have been featured in Denmark’s Globo Beats, a multicultural percussion showcase that blends global rhythms into electrifying performances.

In addition to his role in the SSO, Mario also serves as Artist Faculty, Percussion at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, where he mentors Singapore’s next generation of percussionists.

🧩 The Game: Mario vs. Kiki (+ a Plot Twist)

As expected, Mario came in strong during Round 1, scoring a whopping 6 points in a single MuJong game. A record score that’s unprecedented by any of our guest players:

  • ✅ 1 point for the win
  • ✅ 2 bonus points for Double Accidentals
  • ✅ 2 bonus points for identifying Relative Minors
  • ✅ 1 bonus for razor-sharp flawless sightreading of his winning tiles using the MuJong Time app keyboard

🎯 Total: 6 points — and it felt effortless.

But in Round 2, Kiki made a comeback — not alone, but with a surprise ally: Mario’s 5-year-old son, who quickly proved himself a prodigious strategist in his own right.

Together, Team Kiki recovered 4 points with a clean win — complete with musical reveals, giggles, and a few strategic whispers from the junior percussionist.

“I didn’t lose,” Kiki said. “I had a secret duet partner.”

Final tally:
Mario: 6
Kiki + Mario Jr.: 4

🎉 Our Takeaway

Watching Mario and Kiki (and Mario Jr.!) play MuJong together was a beautiful, unscripted lesson in what music really is — a shared language.

Whether it was the flawless sightreading, the gentle coaching between father and son, or the friendly competition with Kiki, this session was more than a game. It was a celebration of mentorship, musicianship, and multigenerational magic.

Thank you, Mario, for bringing your world-class artistry — and your wonderful family — into our world of musical play.
